Overhead Crane Gear Case Inspections

Industry leading gear case inspections utilizing state of the art non-destructive testing techniques.

The safety and reliability of your crane can be improved with in-depth gear case inspections. A thorough gear case inspection can detect fatigue induced cracks that may lead to catastrophic failure.

Konecranes offers two levels of gear case inspections:

Crane Gear Case Inspections

Level 1 Inspection

A qualified Konecranes inspector completely removes the access port or cover to perform complete a visual inspection of the gear surfaces. Oil samples are taken and analyzed for potential problems, such as metal particles, heat induced changes in the oil chemistry and contaminant. A vibration test/analysis is performed to confirm proper operation of the gear case, including gear meshing, mechanical alignment and smooth running bearings.

Level 2 Inspection

The gear case is completely disassembled and the gears, keys and shafts undergo a full examination which may include non-destructive testing techniques such as dye-penetrant and magnetic rubber.
