Konecranes Americas builds a full range of products for the shipbuilding industry. Only a handful of material handling providers worldwide have the technology to compete in the shipbuilding industry, where lifting capacities may reach several hundred tons. Konecranes builds plate-handling cranes, turnover cranes, and specialized gantries, with capacities up to 500 tons, to handle the massive modules that are involved in the construction of today’s increasingly large ships.
At Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard, Kvaerner chose Konecranes Americas, Inc., to install 23 EOT cranes built in Konecranes factories worldwide. With the help of Konecranes, the redevelopment of the US Navy shipyard in Philadelphia has been transformed into one of the most modern shipbuilding facilities in North America.
