The Konecranes RTG crane is a successful example of intelligence built into a product. The design utilizes well-proven Konecranes components combined in a simple way ensuring minimum maintenance and maximum reliability as well as providing performance consistent with all customer requirements.

Technical and operational benefits

In addition to traditional RTG Crane specifications, the Konecranes RTG Crane includes as standard several extra features that significantly increase performance and reliability and decrease the maintenance costs of the cranes. Such features are for example:

  • Unique sway prevention system that really prevents the sway of the spreader instead of only dampening the existing sway.
  • Horizontal fine positioning of the spreader (the spreader can be moved up to 300 mm in the traveling direction of the trolley/gantry without moving the trolley/gantry).
  • Spreader trim with hoist machinery units eliminates the need for separate special trim mechanisms.
  • Sixteen gantry wheels with low wheel loads make significant savings in civil works costs of the container yard possible.
  • Direct gantry drive without any chains and sprocket wheels resulting in smooth and accurate gantry travel motion and minimum maintenance.
  • Wheel turning with the crane travel machinery eliminates separate maintenance-intensive hydraulic mechanisms for wheel turning.
  • No hydraulics on the crane, only on the spreader. This means better reliability and less maintenance.

A very important feature of the Konecranes RTG Crane is that the Crane does not have any hydraulic systems, not even for gantry wheel turning, anti-sway or spreader micro motions. Because the RTG Cranes operate in harsh marine conditions, this is a very big advantage, resulting in high reliability as well as low maintenance and spare parts costs.
