Design

Critical load handling facilities, such as nuclear power plants, require reliable, safe lifting equipment. Our P&H® nuclear cranes are built with precise safety features and speed control, as well as the ability to operate dependably in extreme conditions. We offer all types of lifting equipment for the nuclear industry, such as:

  • Containment Jib Outage Support Cranes
  • Nuclear Dry Cask Transporters
  • Robotic Cranes
  • Manipulator Cranes
  • Spent Fuel Handling Cranes
  • Fuel Handling Equipment
  • Polar Reactor and BWR Cranes
  • Radiation Waste Cranes
  • Missile Shield Cranes

We also offer support and equipment for reactor head and steam generator replacements.

Many nuclear facilities around the world work with us because of our time-tested safe load handling capabilities. It is our goal to continue advancing concepts and designs for lifting equipment for the nuclear industry.

Meeting Regulations

Konecranes lifting equipment for the nuclear industry is built to meet demanding regulations. Dropping a load could cause severe problems in the nuclear industry. It is crucial that power plant operators use cranes that are built to reduce or prevent these events. We build all our lifting equipment for the nuclear industry in accordance with 10CFR50 Appendix B, a federal regulation set by the NRC to insure quality safety standards for the construction, operation and design of lifting equipment for the nuclear industry.

The Konecranes Experience

Our equipment and services for the nuclear industry are developed to minimize outage time as a part of our commitment to boosting uptime and productivity. We have years of experience in containment work, and can offer a wide array of services for the nuclear industry, such as:

  • Nuclear crane upgrades
  • Outage supervision and support
  • Equipment modernizations, developed to assist in mitigating the likelihood of dangerous load handling accidents

We also handle equipment feasibility studies, engineering evaluations, on-site training and inspection services.

Associations & Memberships

We maintain memberships with the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators, the National Safety Council, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), as well as other lifting equipment manufacturer associations. As an ASME member, we meet the nuclear-specific standards of ASME NOG-1: Rules for Construction of Overhead and Gantry Cranes. These standards address crucial issues for nuclear cranes such as safety requirements, single failure proof, quality assurance, and other design criteria specific to the prevention of lifting equipment accidents at nuclear facilities.
